The YSR Cheyutha Scheme is a government insurance scheme for the benefit of the general public. The scheme was introduced by the Tamil Nadu government to provide health care coverage to people with low income. The scheme offers benefits for treatment at public hospitals only. The scheme is not applicable to the patients under treatment at private hospitals. Benefits are provided to the patients who are mostly poor people, government employees.

Status of YSR Cheyutha Scheme 2021
The YSR Cheyutha Scheme 2021 is a project of the Government of Sri Lanka. It was proposed by the government to be implemented in 2021. It aims to improve the employment situation in Sri Lanka and enhance economic growth through the rapid expansion of the irrigation sector. The scheme is divided into two phases, the first phase involves the construction of a 17 kilometer long 145 meter wide canal from Yauwa to Kel aniya and the second phase involves the construction of a further 5 kilometer long canal from Kelaniya to an existing reservoir in Yauwa. The total project cost is estimated to be US$1,500 million. The work started in 2014 and the water was planned to be supplied to the Kelaniya and Yauwa areas by June 2017. However, due to delays in construction work it was not completed until January 2018.
