Oakland council certifies environmental review of A’s waterfront ballpark plan!

The Oakland City Council voted Thursday to certify the environmental review of the A’s waterfront ballpark project and surrounding development.

It is an important step that moves the city and the team one step closer toward an agreement.

Six council members voted in support of certifying the environmental review after an eight hour meeting with at least 400 attendees and nearly five hours of public comment.

Council Members Carroll Fife and Noel Gallo voted against the certification.

Dave Kaval, the president of the A’s, said the team is “thrilled with the yes vote.”

The team wants to build a 35,000-seat waterfront ballpark, 3,000 units of housing, 1.5 million square feet of offices and 270,000 square feet of retail space.

It also included a 3,500-person performance venue, up to 400 hotel rooms and 8,900 parking spaces.
