Worshop Activity Information Sheet
Introduction: Documents, archival records, manuscripts, maps, charts, books and other paper materials are of immense historical and reference value. A basic paper conservation unit is essential in institutions that are custodians of such collections.
Objective: At the end of this five day workshop, each participant will be able to design a paper conservation unit furnished with equipment, tools and materials to address the conservation needs of his/her collection. The participants will also be able to write down the basic conservation treatments required to address the condition of the collection.
Topics of this programme:
- Establishment of a paper conservation unit.
- Documentation system.
- Emergency treatments.
- Climate monitoring and remedial action.
- Conservation decisions.
- Practical conservation exercises.
Participants: Functionaries of libraries, museums, archives, custodians, etc.
A senior person wouls stay for at least the first day or someone from the institution who can actually help in the care of the paper collections.
Fees: Gratis, as the event is supported by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Central Library - Goa and CSMVS.
Selected participants will not be charged any fee.
